Metacognition--thinking about your own thinking--plays a critical role in effective learning and problem-solving. Here, you can learn about some helpful tips for applying metacognition in the classroom, metacognition theory, it’s benefits, and how to use it in professional and personal practice to become a more skillful learner.
We are a multi-institutional, collaborative research partnership in cooperation with the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Virginia Tech, University of Minnesota Duluth, and E4S, LLC.
Metacognition is an intertwined network of knowing about and regulating our thinking. Therefore, to engage in metacognitive regulation, metacognitive knowledge is accessed, applied, and refined.
Through our research, we have developed, created, and implemented a number of metacognitive tools that instructors can use in their classroom. This is exciting news! Metacognition research can be done in a real classroom setting by infusing meaningful metacognitive development into curriculum.
